Katonah, NY-- In just under a month, the Community Center of Northern Westchester, located in Katonah, will be having the 18th Annual Benefit Cocktail Party fundraiser. The fundraiser, which will be on October 15, will have added meaning, as the event will also be in honor of Sherry Wolf, the executive director of the center.
Wolf, though, answers modestly to the tribute.
“I am honored to be honored, it’s a very humbling and special thing. But I had much better ideas for who they should have honored instead!” Wolf said.
Modesty and respectability are what draw people to Wolf, but even she can be happy with how well the center did last year for northern Westchester. Wolf oversaw over 167,000 pounds of clothing donated, and over 91,000 pounds of food either purchased or donated.
Fran Dowling, chairperson of the fundraising committee for the center, knows that Wolf played an integral part in the success.
“She really has her finger on the pulse of the community and the needs of the community,” said Dowling. “She works tirelessly and is incredibly dedicated and committed to the mission of the community center, which is neighbors helping neighbors.”
The fundraiser is also integral to the center, which serves as it’s main occasion for garnering enough support through the community to keep the center going strong throughout the year.
“It’s what helps us to continue all our programs and classes,” Dowling said, “keeping the food pantry supplied, and allows us to look ahead for future needs.”
The future, as Dowling wants to assure, is also filled with more of Sherry Wolf, as this is not a fair well tribute. Instead, it is honoring the hard work she has given over the eight years of being pesident of the board, and the last four years as the executive director.
The fundraiser on October 15 will be at St. Matthew’s Fellowship Room in Bedford, and it will also feature live and silent auctions.
